Malayalam Superstar and the Rajya Sabha MP Suresh Gopi, the star campaigner of BJP (Bharatiya Janata Party) in Kerala, joined the Saffron party on Wednesday. The move has come as a bit surprise as the Mollywood actor has first refuted the rumours that he is going to adhere to the party.

The National Award winning actor, who is also a green activist and nominated by the central government to Rajya Sabha in the month of April this year. He had been overjoyed with the nomination and said that he considered it as a gift from the Prime Minister, Narendra Modi.

The Malayalam actor has earlier refused to contest elections with BJP ticket from the constituency of Thiruvananthapuram. However, the party was shown interest in his star power to lure voters. “The BJP has been strengthened in Kerala with Suresh Gopi joining the party,” tweeted Union Minister Mukhtar Abbas Naqvi, posting photos on occasion.

When Suresh Gopi refused to stand in elections, the party has fielded Indian Cricket player Sreesanth from the constituency. According to the reports, Gopi has also considered for the post of Nation Film Development Corporation. He had also accompanied with Narendra Modi during his campaign tour for the elections and shared the podium with him.

The 57-year old Suresh Gopi has acted in more than 200 films, and he won several national awards for his roles He had won the National Award for best actor for the movie Kaliyattam in 1998. Gopi is also quite famous with the audiences in Mollywood, and especially known for his honest police officer roles.

The Malayalam superstar has developed the image of angry young man given the kind of roles that he plays in the movie of a political genre. He was also a philanthropist, social worker and an advocate for environment protection.
