Hyderabad, June 29: The University Grants Commissions has sanctioned a Special Assistance Programme (SAP) grant which has worth of Rs. 8 core to the University of Hyderabad (UoH) to encourage its research efforts.

To encourage the recreation of excellence, teamwork in advanced and research, and to speed up the awareness of international standards in specific fields, the University Grants Commission has permitted Special Assistance Programme (SAP) grants worth Rs. 8 core to university.

Research efforts will include in various departments such as Biotechnology & Bioinformatics, Centre for Advanced Studies in Electronics Science and Technology, Plant Sciences, Biochemistry, English and Chemistry.

As per details the grant research works being supported by about 75 PhD students and post-doctoral fellows in respective departments. Dr. Niyaz Ahmed, who is the head of Department of Biotechnology and Bioinformatics, has sanctioned Rs.103.50 lakh under the SAP-Departmental Research Support (DRS I) scheme.

The university has identified school of physics, departments, Centres for Advanced Studies in Electronics Science and Technology (CASEST) for support under SAP-DRS-I with an allocation of Rs.74 lakh and 2 project associates for a period of 2015-2020.

Grant sanctioned Rs.108.50 for Biochemistry department, Rs.100.50 lakh was granted for Plant Sciences Department, Rs.120 lakh have been sanctioned for English Department and the school of Chemistry has received Rs. 295 lakh.
