Bangalore: Bangalore University BU has decided not to conduct admissions for its distance education courses for 2015-16 academic years now, dates and details will be displayed later.

Karnataka State Open University has successfully completed the admission process for distance education courses and other correspondence courses for the academic year 2015-16, now it is turn of Bangalore University. But the BU has decided not to conduct the admission for distance education and correspondence courses for the 2015-16 academic years.

According to University Grants Commission (UGC), the recognition to the varsity’s programs has not been renewed annually. As per official information the recognition to BU’s distance education programs was renewed in 2010-11.

As per sources, initially distance education programs were first under the Indira Gandhi National Open University, later it was under the Distance Education Council and now under University Grants Commission (UGC). The Bangalore University has applied for renewal on time, but it had not received communication from UGC, so it has decided to put on hold of distance education admissions. BU has to wait till November or December for the UGC to renew recognition.

BU’s defence, Kemparaju. T.D., Director, BU’s Directorate of Correspondence Courses and Distance Education confirmed that, BU has not violating any rule, only the traditional courses which are offered by varsity have no practical’s and those are offered as regular courses.
