Mumbai: At least 12 people killed and 7 injured after 50-year-old three story building collapsed in on Tuesday in Thane district, Maharashtra.

A 50 year-old three story building was collapsed in B Cabin area in Thane at early hours of Tuesday. Large number of residents was trapped in the rubbles. Fire Brigade and National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) personnel were immediately engaged with rescue operation.

According to the information, the three story building was collapsed at early morning 2:00 am when all residents of building were in deep sleep. The building was collapsed without giving any warning to residents, nearly 20 people were struck in the debris.

The National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) has reached the spot in next 15 minutes of building collapsed and started the rescue operation immediately. The 50 personnel of NDRF and two sniffer dogs engaged with rescue operation by tracking the people who were alive under the rubbles. The rescue operation was closed by 10:30 am and the team has saved seven people.

The 50 year old three story building was constructed in 1965 year, it has total 16 flats currently five families living in this building.  Earlier the Thane municipal Corporation has issued a notice to vacate the old building, some of the residents have left the flat but some few others continued to stay there.
