Kolkata, West Bengal: Mamata Banerjee, WB Chief Minister renamed six townships in the state on Thursday which are now representing the place’s importance.

West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee on Thursday changed the names of six townships in the state. Among them, now the Siliguri would be called as Teesta, this name was changed based on the name of famous river in North Bengal. Bolpur named as ‘Gitabitan’ and the name of popular songs compilation written by Ranbindranath Tagore.

While the twin industrial towns of Asansol-Durgapur will be called as ‘Agnibina’ based on a collection of poems which are written by Kazi Najrul Islam. And the Gajaldoba which is one of the famous places in Malda District is renamed as ‘Mukta Tirtha’.

Garia that is near to Kolkata will be called as ‘Uttam City’ named after hero Uttam Kumar. Kalyani, the township in Nadia district is also renamed as ‘Samriddhi’ in the period of Bidhan Chandra Roy’s chief ministership.

As per official news, a seventh satellite township, named “Viswa-Bangla” will come near to the Eastern Metropolitan By-pass in the city for government employees. When Mamata was the railway minister, she had also renamed several metro rail stations in the city.
