Chennai: Five Engineering colleges in Tamil Nadu have failed to renew their affiliation with the Anna University and voluntarily did not participated in TN single window counselling for engineering admissions this year.
Five self-financing engineering colleges in Tamil Nadu state have announced their suspension voluntarily for admission in to various engineering courses. According to sources, all engineering colleges in Tamil Nadu which are affiliated to the Anna University should have to apply for renewal of affiliation before January this year. But five colleges in state did not apply for the renewal of affiliation this year and decided to shut down voluntarily due to poor admissions last year.
A senior official of Directorate of Technical Education (DoTE) has advised the colleges, that they should obtain a No Objection Certificate from the DoTE before winding up a campus. He said that, institutes will be allowed to shout down only with the permission of the All India Council of Technical Education based on the State Government recommendation.
If the Engineering Institutes have decided to showdown it, they need to get the permission from DoTe after successfully transferring the existing students to other institutes with an approval of the AICTE and Anna University.
Former Vice Chancellor of Anna University, Prof E Balagurusamy has welcomed the decision of the seven colleges to wind up it.
