Government of India will keep a record for seven years of the Aadhar card Services and Benefits which used through Aadhar number. This is as per the new rules and regulations from UIDAI (Unique Identification Authority of India). The regulation introduced fearing about the Database might use for surveillance.

This is the most anticipated secure measure by the UIDAI is taken to safeguard the records of the every individual. The information retrieved on this 12-digit Aadhar number will be put on online for two years. The online enrollments will enable every citizen of the country for checking his/her records.

After the completion of two years, the records removed and kept in the Government archives. Where the individuals cannot access after that. However, the security agencies are an exemption to this rule. Besides they need the permission of District Judge to access the Data.

Sunil Abraham, director of Bengaluru think tank to Centre for Internet and Society said “This is an unprecedented centralized data retention provision. Once Aadhar card becomes mandatory for all the services, it can use by benign and malignant actors to conduct 360-degree surveillance on any individual for various security reasons.”

ABP Pandey, UIDAI Chief Executive Officer, said that “The concerns regarding the Aadhar card related benefits exaggerate. The agency will keep the records safe as a secure step as disputes may arise in future.”

The UIDAI meanwhile has launched a drive to enroll the leftover population for Aadhar across the country in about 22 states namely Kerala, Rajasthan, MP, UP, Punjab, Himachal Pradesh, Haryana, Andhra Pradesh, Maharashtra, Andaman & Nicobar Island, Jharkhand… This drive is to ensure that nobody is left without an Aadhar in these states. Enrollment can done through enrol.uidai.gov.in, continued till November 15th.
