In the process of competing with the new telecom rival Reliance Jio the three top telecom networks, Airtel, Idea and Vodafone have offered lucrative offers to customers. However, in this process, these top networks have violated some rules too.

The Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI) has suggested a penalty of Rs. 30.5 billion (Rs. 3050 crores) on Idea, Airtel and Vodafone for denying interconnection with Reliance Jio for because of they have not given proper interconnections points to new telecom venture Jio.

Reliance Jio 4G Welcome Offer Valid up to 3rd December Order by TRAI Authority

Responding to the Reliance Jio’s complaint about the Point of Interconnection (POI), the TRAI has imposed a fine of Rs. 500 million, i.e., Rs 50 crore per zone on each telecom network. The POI is the interconnection between two or more telecom operators.

Penalty imposed on top networks:

  • Airtel: 21 circles (Rs 1,050 crore)

  • Vodafone: 21 circles (Rs 1,050 crore)

  • Idea: 19 circles (Rs 950 crore)

In similar letters to these networks, the regulatory has said that it is evident that Airtel, Vodafone and Idea are “in non-compliance of the terms and conditions of license and denial of Interconnection to RJIL appears to be an ulterior motive to stifle competition and is anti-consumer”.

Jio has accused rival operators of not providing less than required points of interconnection needed for the users to complete calls to other networks. Interconnections enable the users to call to other telecom networks.

Reliance Jio Entry With More Data For Same Tariff For 4G

The Mukesh Ambani-led Reliance Jio has mentioned that over 12crore calls are failed daily between Jio and other networks such as Idea, Airtel and Vodafone. According to the quality service rules, not more than five calls in 1000 should fail because of network failure.

The regulator TRAI has been observed the high level of congestion in telecom networks which leads to call failure on Reliance Jio network.
