Krishna Janmashtami story & Pooja Vidhi
Long ago there lived a king called Kansa. He is a king of Mathura. Kansa was a brother of Devaki. He had a great love towards his sister and never made her sad. One day she got married to Vasudev and went to her husband home. Kansa enjoyed the marriage and helped during her sister marriage. However one day Kansa suddenly heard someone speaking from the sky saying Kansa, the sister you love so much would be the reason of your death a day. The eighth child of the Devaki and Vasudeva would kill you.”
Immediately Kansa told guards to arrest her sister and her husband and put them in jail. They bought them and people in Mathura including Kansa behaved so rudely towards them. With a loud voice, Kansa said: “I would kill all the child of my sister to remove my killer from the way.” His sister gave birth to seven children and he killed everyone.
One night as it is raining heavily and all were sleeping, suddenly Devaki gave birth to the eighth child, and he was none other than Lord Krishna suddenly all jail gates were broke by birth of Krishna. On midnight Vasudev took the child cross the vast ocean and gave Krishna to his friend, Nanda at Gokul. In return, he took his friend’s girl child and went to Devaki, and jail gates were closed and everyone was sleeping. Morning Kansa tried to kill the little girl. But the child flew into the sky and said one day Lord Krishna son of Devaki would come to kill you.
Krishna was bought up in the hands of Yasoda and Nanda at Gokul. Later he went and killed Kansa and saved their parents. Thereby Gokul was pleased with Lord Krishna and by his naughty behavior. People living there celebrate this festival as Gokulashtami.
All married women will do fasting to be blessed with a healthy child in future. People who do not get married would also offer their prayers and do fasting to get a child in future after getting married. If fasting is done by both husband and wife together, by offering their prayers, there will be a good result. Some do fasting till night after puja is completed and few do till the morning after both Rohini nakshatra, and Ashtami Titi is over. Women break their fast in one day next morning if they can’t starve for two days.
