June 24: FB AI Tool – Facebook developed an experimental algorithm, which can recognize people in photographs even if their face is partially or completely hidden.
The most popular used social media network Facebook, now no longer needs your face to recognise you. Artificial intelligence lab of FB has developed an experimental algorithm to recognise you in photographs even if your face is hidden.
This new algorithm can identify you from the back of your head itself or other regular common features in your postures. This new set of face recognition feature is so effective, it can detect you by using the clues hairstyle, pose, body shape etc. even if your’ face isn’t entirely visible.
The new software brand is currently in testing mode, to test the algorithm the team pulled almost 40,000 public photographs from Flickr. Among all those photos some showing a person’s full body along with face and others partially confuses the face. As per official reports final algorithm was able to recognise individual people identifies with 83% accuracy.
The head of Facebook artificial intelligence team, Yann Lecun said that, this new tool would be useful for people who are privacy-conscious. This new algorithm seems impressive and ultimately it will become a tool of convenience for the user. However, when a new product comes in to existence it will point towards privacy and concerns users have. This facial recognition tool is also has a downside when dealing with privacy.
