Bhubaneswar, June 16: Grand Road popularly known as Badadanda in Puri is to get free Wi-Fi from July month. Nabakalebar can enjoy this facility from June 30 or soon in July first week.
Government of Orissa thought of implementing free Wi-Fi scheme at Grand Road which is a national highway. This facility will be started from first week of July or if possible from June 30 only. Broadband users can now operate their devices with free Wi-Fi for 30 minutes and later it will be chargeable for every usage.
Many facilities are provided to make people of the state comfortable. Works are already started and Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited (BSNL) finished the fibre optic cable laying work. Grand Road is now ready with cable part and routers connection is to be done to make it easy for users.
In addition to the free wi-fi services provided at the Sun temple in Konark whish is started on May 21, this project is also launched with a wireless bandwidth if 10 Mbps whereas a normal user needs only 2 Mbps for their internet purpose.
Bijayananda Mishra, Chief General Manager (Technical) of the Telecom Circle today said, “The Sun temple project was taken up under the Adarsh Smarak (model monument) category for which the Centre has sanctioned fund to provide world-class tourist friendly facilities at 25 major monuments across India. The second one was granted for the Jagannath temple. As security reasons do not allow execution of the Wi-Fi project inside the Puri temple, the BSNL will extend the service on the Grand Road, famous for the car festival”.
In order not to have any call drops situation, this infrastructure is being carried out along the Puri-Bhubaneswar that is NH-203. Four Temporary Telecom Towers will be established for this purpose so that mobile calls will be as usual.
Mishra said infrastructure upgrade would be carried out along the Puri-Bhubaneswar NH-203 so that the telecom users didn’t face situations such as call drop. Survey on signal receiving capacity will be done by expert at all major points in just two days. Mishra said that during car festival also no problem will be there in call drops and low density wi-fi connections.
General Manager, Odisha Telecom Circle, A.K. Pahi said that this free wi-fi facility will help the people who attend car festival also. No roaming charges will be there for pilgrims also.
