Hyderabad, July 15: HDMA – Revenue authorities of district have demolished about 150 under construction houses at Shetti Kunta lake in Patancheru mandal by using heavy earth movers.

Ameenpur Panchayat wrapped the 17 acres of Patancheru which comes under Hyderabad Metropolitan Development Authority (HMDA). The Panchayat divided the lake place into 182 plots by breaking the all norms of HMDA. Then the National Green Tribunal (NGT) took a serious action against this and decided to demolish the constructed houses at that place.

The demolition process was started at 3:30 am on Tuesday in the presence of revenue authorities and Policemen, the total operation was supervising by Sangareddy DSP M Tirupatanna to stop any untoward incidents at the lake site.

The Chennai-based NGT directed the Telangana state government to stop all ongoing construction activities at Patancheru lake under the survey number 947. And it passed the temporary orders on 7th July to protect the neighbouring 20 acre Ubba Kunta lake in Patelguda village of Pantancheru mandal.

With the swift demolition at Shetti Kunta lake, city based NGO Save Our Urban Lake (SOUL) has appealed for both GHMC and HMDA authorities to restart encroached lands in 200 lakes. SOUL has submitted the list to both HMDA and GHMC regarding 200 encroached lakes details including Durgam Cheruvu, Kapra and Naya Qila talab with an evidence, expecting an immediate action from the authorities but there is no reaction from them.
