Chandigarh: PGI department will celebrate Organ Donation Day on 7th August and is planning to organize organ awareness camp to encourage transplantation in the city.

Organ donation in India is celebrated by the government organization and related officials to motivate the people donate the organs as well as to understand the value of organ donation in their life. To encourage organ replacement in the city, PGI department of renal transplant surgery is likely to celebrated Organ Donation Day on 7th August and planning to conduct organ awareness camp in the new OPD block from 10:00 am to 2:00 pm to educate the people about the concept of brain death and organ donation.

The meeting will be educated the people who want to donate their organs about the importance of organ donor cards and they can also register during the meeting. The meeting will also explain about the deceased organ donation in the institute by various faculty members. The meeting will be pleased with the families of donors who contributed their organs at PGI last year and the meeting will end with organ recipient’s journey from illness to recovery.

According to the information out of 1.2 billion population in India the total number of organs transplants being carried each year in the country is about 4,000 where as in developed country like the US, it is about five times greater than the number of transplants as being done in our country.
