Kerala: State Govt recently launched an innovative Ambulance service for Elephants. This is first of its kind in entire India launched by Kerala forest department.

For the first time in India, Animals got Ambulance Services in India and this Program was launched by Kerala Government recently. The state forest department has launched an Ambulance services in India for Animals in Kerala.

As per latest news, Elephants in Kerala will soon have ambulance services if they found sick or injured in accidents. A special vehicle had to be designed for carrying these jumbo animals in North Kerala at the Wayanad Wildlife Sanctuary which is paradise of wild animals in North Kerala.

Department officials said a modified lorry, the ‘ambulance’ vehicle will be used mainly for the transportation of injured and sedated elephants for their translocation during the time of emergencies and to ferry ‘kumkis’ (domesticated elephants) from other places. A senior official said the vehicle is completely jumbo-friendly and expected to be a great help to bring down man-animal conflicts in the region.

P. Danesh Kumar, WWS Wildlife warden told that, “The vehicle has facilities like ropes and cranes to lift the animals safely and a special water facility also provided in that to keep elephants cool during the time of transportation.

The officials said, “The vehicle has also facilities to store food and medicines for the animal. This vehicle could play a significant role in bringing down man-elephant conflicts in forest-fringe region of high range Wayanad.
