A Prehistoric Celt has been discovered at Thimiri, near Cheruvathur recently which tells prehistoric civilization in northern Kerala. The stone was implemented with a bevelled cutting edge, perhaps used as a tool.

Local people in Nalikamkandam have believed that four ancient Brahmin settlements existed there, due to this reason they have started to dig a well while doing that this Celt has appeared to them.

Recently, at the same spot, four rock-chambers, a cave and umbrella stones have also been discovered within the one-kilometre radius. After examining the object, C.P. Rajeevan and Nandakumar Koroth who are the history scholars from the Nehru Science and Arts College, Kanhangad said that this could be used to build megalithic monuments such as rock-cut chamber (Muniyara), cape-stone, umbrella stone (Kudakkallu) and to cut branches of trees.

Professor Nandakumar also added that Mr Radhakrishnan had promised to him to hand over the Celt to the State Archaeological Department’s history museum.
