Telangana: Bird Flu signs are on vogue in city outskirts of Hyderabad and two areas of Ranga Reddy district were found positive. Around 1 lakh birds were infected and tests are going on to find more.

Bird Flu broke out in city outskirts of Hyderabad, two areas of Ranga Reddy district. In response to this, the government of Telangana and AP has announced a red alert in their states. District animal husbandry department had tested the dead chicken in 2 poultry farms and send test samples to high-security animal disease lab at Bhopal.

On Tuesday, results confirmed that the birds were affected by Bird Flu, which is also known as H5N1 virus or avian influenza. Telangana government has announced an alert in districts near Hyderabad and also issued an advice to the neighbouring state Andhra Pradesh. The state government has decided to discard nearly 2 lakh chickens in a 1 KM radius and nearly 300 people of rapid response have been arranged to help Ranga Reddy district officials.

Dr. Vamsi Krishna Reddy, Assistant Veterinary Surgeon of Ranga Reddy district said that, there are total 80,000 birds affected with this virus near Thorrur village and another 45,000 which are neighbour to affected birds are also culled out. Later they may also cull birds in all the farms in Thorrur village where the operation is going on.

“The culling exercise will go on for three to five days as we have pressed several teams into the job. All precautions including administration of preventive medication Tamiflu for staff handling the birds are being taken,” said Y. Thirupathaiah, additional director for Animal Husbandry in Telangana.

The state government has also directed the official of animal husbandry and veterinary department to seek and immediate medical attention to infected birds.
