Hyderabad: Free Wi-Fi services for around 10 Km radius near Hussain Sagar, Hyderabad is going to be started from today, 5:15 PM at hotel Marriott by Telangana IT minister Taraka Rama Rao.
To make Hyderabad as the first Wi-Fi enabled city in country, government has taken initiated step towards it. The government has planned to enable free Wi-Fi services in 10 km radius of one of the famous tourist place in city i.e. Hussain Sagar. Free Wi-Fi services at city will be available from today onwards, Telangana IT minister Taraka Rama Rao is going to launch the project on 16th April 2015, Thursday at 5.15 pm in hotel Marriott. KTR will launch the project by making a first video call to Union Telecom Minister Ravishanakar Prasad.
People can utilise free Wi-Fi services for half an hour at 10km radius of Hussainsagar areas such as Necklace Road, Tankband, Lumbini Park and surroundings places. Tourist can enjoy this free service with a speed of 2 Mbps to 20 Mbps. IT minister KT Rama Rao has arranged review meeting with BSNL and Quad Gen officials. The official explains that, free Wi-Fi service at Hussainsagar can be used by 1,800 to 2,500 people at a time for first half an hour. After 30 minutes, users have to pay for services.
‘’Citizens should be provided quality services and all measures should be taken to ensure it. Initiate measures to provide free Wi-Fi services completely at least in one zone of the city,’’ Rama Rao asked the BSNL officials. Then the official replied that, services can be expanded to entire city by laying about 4,800 km fibre net.
As per media report the government has already tied up with, a major private telecom operator Airtel to launch the services at 17 public Wi-Fi hotspots in the City.
