New Delhi: Indian Meteorological Department report entitled IMD Long Range Forecast mentioned a low rainfall this year in 2015. Check Dr Harsh Vardhan statement and IMD analysis details.

Indian Meteorological Department in a press conference yesterday reported regarding monsoon this year. Entitled IMD Long Range Forecast, it predicted that in compare to previous years and most likely last year, rainfall will be below average in running 2015.

Rainy season this year will be below average in the midst of relatively weak El-Nino conditions likely to stick with during the south-west monsoon period. IMD already declared that it is going to declare LRF in two different stages i.e. in April and June 2015.  As the first stage, the press conference was held on Mahika Auditorium, New Delhi yesterday.

In a press conference held yesterday, Union Minister for Science & Technology and Earth Sciences Dr Harsh Vardhan gave a detail idea on it. As stated by him, roughly around 35% of total rainfall will be below normal. There is 28% probability of normal and almost zero for above average rainfall.

Addressing the press conference, Harsh Vardhan said that, “The weak conditions are prevailing over the Pacific and the conditions will likely persist during the June or South West Monsoon. The final monsoon forecast will be given in June”

Two More Months for Next Update – IMD

Former member of Economic Advisory Council and Deputy Chairman, State Planning Board, Rajasthan Mr. VS Vyas reportedly gave emphasis on next update from IMD in June. According to him, odds of the below average rainfall is not that much terrible till now. “one should wait out until the IMD gives its second forecast.”

He also added that, “It is generally the second estimate which is much more reliable because the predicators that they are using now for this are not as robust as they will be using for June estimate and I think we should wait.”
