Chennai: Trade Reports and trade reports revealed that it is a bad start for Kollywood in 2016 and all the movies released on January 1st, 2016 became failures.
2016 has been good for Telugu Film industry. But for Kollywood, the start of the year has been dull. ‘Maalai Nerathu Mayakkam’, ‘Alagu Kutty Chellam’, ‘Tharkaapu’, ‘Karaioram’, ‘Peigal Jaakirathai’ released on 1st of January.
All the five movies were failures. None of these movies had star value and each movie bombed at Box-office. Every movie got released based on the hopes with the script alone.’Maalai Nerathu Mayakkam’ alone had Selvaraghavan as a script writer.
But even that movie failed in B and C centers. And even in multiplexes and ‘A’ centres, the movie was not received well due to ‘A’ certification. Theatre owners said that the movie was avoided by family audience. ‘Pasanga 2’ and ‘Boologam’ which released on 24th of December 24th are still running successfully.
At the same time, there are no big releases on January 8th. For Pongal, Tamil cinema will have ‘Gethu’, ‘Tharai Thappattai’, ‘Kathakali’ and ‘Rajini Murugan’. They are the next set of biggies.
