Air India Flight Grounded at Heathrow After Bird-Hit

The Air India’s Ahmedabad to London flight via Newark suffered a bird hit, forcing the airline to cancel its onward journey from Britain’s capital.

AI-171 with 230 passengers onboard suffered a bird hit while it was on its way to London from Ahmedabad yesterday. The plane landed at Heathrow Airport at 10:39 AM local time.

In a miraculous escape for hundreds of passengers, an Air India wide body aircraft landed safely at London Heathrow airport after suffering from a bird-hit in its flight path between Ahmedabad and London.

The bird hit was severe enough to push back the aircraft’s nose and damage the radar system. The onward flight to Newark has canceled, and the aircraft has grounded.

The incident happened on Wednesday, and the location of the incident is yet to reveal. Still not known how many people were in the Ahmedabad-Newark flight that goes via London.

Confirming the incident, an Air India spokesperson said, “AI-171 Ahmadabad-London-Newark flight has grounded due to bird hit yesterday. Due to this unfortunate incident, London-Newark and Newark-London flights have canceled.”

For London -Newark passengers alternate arrangments have made.

“Due to bird hit the nose of the aircraft is damaged and also the radar system. The aircraft is grounded in the London, and Maintenance/ Repair work is going on,” the spokesperson said.

According to Air India’s Engineering Department, the aircraft will be ready for next schedule from London to Ahmadabad.

For Ahmadabad passengers alternate arrangement has made. They will travel by an Air India London-Mumbai flight, and they will transfer by domestic flight to Ahmedabad.
