India Welcomes World’s Largest Cargo Plane Antonov 225 Mriya

Antonov 225 Mriya is the longest, heaviest and biggest cargo plane has landed at the Rajiv Gandhi International Airport in Hyderabad.

On the way to Australia’s Perth from Europe’s Preg Antonov 225 Mriya has landed in India for the first time on Friday morning. It is carrying the generator with a weight of 133 tonnes. Besides cargo, the crew members are present in the plane. The next destination of the gigantic plane is Koulalampur of Malaysia.

Before the landing, the Airport authorities in Shamshabad Airport has made all the arrangements for the safe landing. The Hyderabad’s airport was chosen for landing in India because of the fact that it is the biggest and has the longest runway with advanced technological facilities.

Ukraine built Antonov 225 Mriya cargo aeroplane is so special as it is the longest and heaviest aircraft which is powered by 6 turbofan engines, it has a maximum takeoff weight of 640 tonnes capacity and has the largest wingspan of any aircraft in operational services. It is built to undertake transcontinental route airlifting load between 180-230 tonnes. It can travel as fast as 850 Kilometres per hour.

The history of the Antonov An-225 Mriya is quite a bit interesting. The 1988 built plane was abandoned for quite some time in the Hangar itself after the division of Soviet Russia. Initially, it was built to fulfil the space and military aircraft requirements of USSR. Later after the Soviet break-up the plane was repaired and utilised for commercial purposes. This is the World’s only biggest plane till date.
