Australia Sets New T20 Record Score with 263, Beats Sri Lanka in First T20 in Pallekele
Australia Vs Sri Lanka 1st T20 International in Pallekele creates a new record. Australia scored 265 runs and beat Sri Lanka by 85 runs. Aussie Batsman Glenn Maxwell breathtaking innings brings victory to Australia. He scored 145 runs in just 65 balls including nine sixes and 14 fours.
Pallekele: The 1st T20 match between Australia Vs Srilanka which was held in Pallekele on Tuesday is eye feast to all the cricket fans. During this match, a new t20 record was created by the team Australia alongside with few other records.
The previous highest total was 260 made by Sri Lanka against Kenya in the 2007 T20 world cup match. Now Australia smashed it on Tuesday by scoring 263 runs in 20 overs. Australian batsman and hard hitter Glenn Maxwell destroyed the Srilankan bowlers with his unbeaten 145 runs.
Maxwell came as an opening batsman, and he utilised the opportunity very well. His century leads Australia to a comprehensive 85 runs victory over Sri Lanka.
On the flip side, Australia broke Srilankans 9-year-old record 260/6 against Kenya in 2007 t20 World Cup. Aussie bowlers restricted host team to just 178 runs in 20 overs to take the 1-0 lead in two match series.
Glenn Maxwell and David Warner came as openers after taking batting first. David Warner gave a solid start to his team with his 28 runs in just 12 balls. He put 57 run opening partnership with Maxwell.
Sri Lankan off-spinner Sachithra Senanayake bowled dangerous Warner that held its line to take the off stump. However, Maxwell was scoring freely at the other end and gave a record score for Sri Lanka to chase.
The opener who registered his maiden T20 century in his 35th game found the perfect partner in the form of Usman Khawaja who scored 36 off 22 balls. The duo put 97 runs partnership for the second wicket. After Khawaja was out, Maxwell and Travis Head continued the shower of runs. Head scored 45 runs in 18 balls then put 109 runs for the 3rd wicket.
However, Maxwell’s score of 145 runs is the second best individual score in T20 after Aaron Finch’ s world record 156.
On the other side, Srilankan bowlers bowled well but didn’t gain control over the game. They leaked too many runs in the death overs of the game. Senanayake, Thisara Perera and Sachith Pathirana took a wicket each.

Dinesh Chandimal, Captain of Srilanka, said, “I am disappointed with the bowling. If we restricted them to under 200, we would have had a chance, but we failed”.
Chandimal is the top scorer with 58 runs. Starc and Boland claimed three wickets each as James Faulkner, Moises Henriques, and Adam Zampa took one each. The second T20 will be held in Colombo on September 9.
