Hyderabad, July 14: Begumpet airport land might be used either to construct a new Secretariat of state or Skyscrapers or housing for poor people.

Telangana state government is planning to construct a new secretariat at one of the oldest airfields in the country, Begumpet airport which has nearly 700-acres f land. The state government has already directed the Revenue officials to conduct a survey based the revenue records and asked to submit to detailed report on it.

As per sources Begumpet airport land will be used either to construct a new secretariat of skyscrapers or housing for the poor. The survey report along with the map of Begumpet airport was submitted to the government recently, as per the survey report 690 acres was under the control of the Begumpet airport out of which 357 acre of land belongs to Hyderabad district jurisdiction and remaining land belongs to Ranga Reddy district.

Out of 357 acres land, 197 acre belongs to the state government rest of the land is acquired from private parties, defence and Secunderabad cantonment. On the other hand out of 333 acres land only a portion of land belongs to Ranga Reddy district and rest of land acquired from private parties.

Commercial operation at Begumpet airport has almost ended after the inauguration of Rajiv Gandhi International Airport (RGIA) at Shamshabad in 2008 but Begumpet airport is still existence by VVIP, private flying clubs and the Indian Air Force.
