India’s highest civilian honor Bharat Ratna was given to Madan Mohan Malviya posthumously by the president of India, Pranab Mukherjee. Malviya was not only a freedom fighter but was also a noted educationist India has ever got.
Bharat Ratna will be presented to the family members of Malviya today on 30th March 2015 at Rashtrapati Bhavan. On last December 2014, the Govt. of India publicized its decision to award Bharat Ratna to freedom fighter Madan Mohan along with ex PM Atal Bihari Vajpayee.
Madan Mohan Malaviya was not only a educationist and politician but also popular for his role in the Indian independence movement. He was president of Indian National Congress (INC) for four times. Apart from freedom movement and education, he is also memorized for his major role in Hindu nationalism. He was one among the early leaders of the Hindu Mahasabha.
One of the most recognized achievement of Pandit Malviya was the establishment of Banaras Hindu University. Besides this, his contribution towards the Indian education is really remarkable and will be recognized for ever.
Pandit Madan Mohan Malviya was born on 25th December 1861 at Allahabad and just one year before Independence, he died on November 12, 1946 at Varanasi. In the year 1886, he joined politics with congress and became the president of Indian National Congress in 1909, 1913, 1919 and 1932.
Malviya also founded a highly dominant, English newspaper entitled “The Leader” published from Allahabad in 1909. He was also the Chairman of one of the most admired English daily newspaper till now “Hindustan Times” from 1924 to 1946. And it was his effort resulted in the launch of its Hindi version entitled “Hindustan Dainik” in 1936.
