Bharti Airtel’s Call Drop Ceiling Policy Announced

India’s largest mobile network company Bharti Airtel’s call drop ceiling voluntary announcement is a smart move in the sector.

On Thursday, the Supreme Court’s judgement has rejected the plea of Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI) regarding the compensation for call drop to the users. This was suggested for deriving a better and quality service from the providers. The permissible call drops limit prescribed by TRAI at present is 2%. The Airtel’s call drop policy allowed itself a maximum drop of 1.5% of all calls made on its network.

Additionally, the Telco has set aside nearly Rs. 100 crores annually as a reserve in the name of  Airtel’s call drop. The amount that is derived from penalising itself on exceeding its new benchmark set will be used for a social cause. As per one of the officials the fund will be utilised in educating underprivileged children in rural areas.

The telco will contribute Rs 1 lakh for every 0.01% increase in call drop rate beyond 1.5% permissible call drops limit every month in each circle of its operation. Hopefully, such measure will increase the network service provided by the telecom companies. Almost including the government’s BSNL is included in this policy.
