Kolkata, May 20: Bishnupur is going to become West Bengal state’s first heritage city. 11th to 14th century terracotta temples and a splendid historical background are the reasons.
WB Directorate of Archaeology and Museums reported recently that they are soon going to declare Bishnupur as the first Heritage City of West Bengal. Along with this process, they are planning to make it a big city by including its periphery.
Bishnupur is a small city, a municipality town in the state of West Bengal. It’s a place where culture simply redefined. Presence of medieval terracotta temples and popular Balucheri sarees designs enhance its legacy. Besides this, the town has a significant historical past and also popular for Bishnupur Mela that held every year around the last week of December
Prabhakar Pal, additional director of the organization said in his report that, “Bishnupur is a very small place and not a planned town. We want to make it big by including its outskirts and developing it as West Bengal’s first planned heritage city.”
Central Govt of India also recently accepted the recommendation of WB Directorate of Archaeology and Museums to declare Bishnupur as a heritage city. Report also focused that, the state with support from tourism department and urban development ministry is planning for a massive project here. The development process will include a better communication system, museums, parks, hotels, etc.
Official report again added, “We will seek funds for this from the 14th Finance Commission which will be used for conservation of heritage sites and infrastructure development.” Geographical position of Bishnupur is adequate enough for any development plans. It situated nearly 150 Km away from Kolkata.
