Hyderabad: Telangana government has deactivated nearly 11.94 lakh cards and saved around Rs.200 crore after drive against bogus ration cards in the State.

The Civil Supplies Commissioner Rajat Kumar said that, Telangana government has decided to deactivate the number of bogus ration cards in the state, as a result in last four months the government has deactivated the 11.94 lakh cards which led to save Rs.200 crore.

According to information, In Ranga Reddy district the fair price shop dealers voluntarily submitted 54,013 cards out of which 1.89 lakh population and also submitted 1, 103 metric tonnes of saved rice. As per sources the present strength of the cards in the two categories for above and below poverty line families was 90.28 lakh.

Earlier the government used to deliver around 200 MTs per month and it has increased to 1,667 MTS across the state at the end of July, this was six percentage of the total allocation. After the drive the total closing balance in Hyderabad was 2,604 MTs i.e. 16.5 percent.

The Commissioner said that, the department is ready to distribute new ration cards, instead of issuing coups to cardholders. The new ration cards will be issued whenever the government fixed the date. From now onwards about 2,000 trucks will have GPS by the month-end while transporting rice to hostels and other government programmes.
