British Film on Ramanujan at IFFI in Goa

Goa: The 46th edition IFFI film festival that is going to start from November 20 is to have a film on mathematician Srinivasa Ramanujan’s life “The man who knew Infinity”.

A British film on well-known mathematician Srinivasa Ramanujan’s life “The man who knew Infinity” will open the 46th International Film Festival of India (IFFI) on November 20. As we know, the International Film Festival of India is running for last 10 days and this time, the film on Ramanujan will kick off film festival in Goa.

Actor Anil Kapoor will be chief guest for the 11-day film carnival in Goa. This film was directed by Matthew Brown who is British director and an Indian-origin British star Dev Patel in title role and Jeremy Irons as professor G H Hardy is the leading actors for this film.

The film set against backdrop of Cambridge and travels their unusual friendship that changed mathematics. The I&B minister Arun Jaitley said, “The festival will present the best of the domestic and international talent. This year the festival will showcase 187 films from 89 countries in World Cinema section along with 26 Feature and 21 Non-Feature films in Indian Panorama section”.

Announcing the Indian Panorama, Jaitley stated that the section will have a convergence of remarkable films from different languages and states. Salman Khan’s ‘Bajrangi Bhaijaan’, Cannes FIPRESCI winner ‘Masaan’, India’s Oscar entry ‘Court’ are some of the films in the Indian Panorama section (feature).

The International Competition section to be chaired by eminent filmmaker Shekhar Kapur features 15 movies including two Indian titles from Indian Panorama. Spain is the focus country this year with a special team flying down to meet Indian filmmakers
