New Delhi, June 17: CBDT to introduce a new smart and intelligent database will come soon in the Income Tax department to check tax evasion, which spoils compliance culture. Central Board of Direct Taxes (CBDT) chairperson Anita Kapur revealed this on Tuesday.

Income Tax department will come soon with a new smart and intelligent database to check tax evasion; it is called as Income Tax Business Application. The database will immensely remove the data of all financial transactions of persons and entities.

CBDT chairperson Anita Kapur said that, “the database will be set up later this year and it will become fully operational next year. It is a robust database and have all types of financial transactions data of an entity, including collected information of individual or business. The department aiming this to bring 25 lakh new assesses for every month under tax-paying bracket”.

She added that, “the department is looking to make tax payment process very simple by providing immediate solutions to tax payer problems. If the department did not take any action against the evader, who is avoiding tax payment, it will spoil the total IT system because those who pay taxes feel the system is unfair. So the taxman is required to take demonstrative action against the evaders”.

She said that “At present IT department had only 1 percent of cases under the scrutiny category and the department is trying to bring in a rule where a taxpayer will have the least human interface, thereby reducing cases of corruption and emergence of a grievance”.
