Chaitanya Tamhane’s Marathi Movie Court is into Oscars

Mumbai: Director Chaitanya Tamhane’s debut Marathi movie Court, a courtroom drama chosen as India’s official entry for the Best Foreign Language film category at the 88th Academy Awards.

Film Federation of India (FFI) selects the Marathi movie Court as official entry in the Best Foreign Film category of the prestigious Oscar awards. The news was official confirmed by the secretary general of FFI.

Veteran actor and filmmaker Amol Palekar was headed to choose the 17-member jury for entry to Oscar awards this year which is going to be held on February 28th, 2016 and he also confirmed that Marathi movie Court has been selected for prestigious awards. As per reports, PK, Haider, Mary Kom, Massan, Kaaka Muttai, Kuttram Kadithal and Indian epic movie Baahubali were also watched for jury awards.

Court is an Indian courtroom drama film, where the hopes and dreams of the city’s ordinary people paly out was written directed by Chaitanya Tamhane and it is his directional debut. The film features new artists Vira Sathidar, Vivek Gomber, Geethanjali Kulkami, Pradeep Joshi, Usha Bane and Shirish Pawar.

The Marathi movie Court has already won the Best Film in the Horizons category and the Luigi De Laurentiis award for director Tamhane. It also premiered at the 71st Venice International Film Festival and went on to win 18 other awards at the film festivals including honours at the Mumbai, Vienna, Antalya and Singapore film festivals.

The film has also won the Best Features Film award at the 62nd National Film Awards. Now it was announced as India’s official submission for the 88th Annual Academy Awards in the Best Foreign Language Film Category.
