Current India captain MS Dhoni has retired from test cricket, Virat to take over the captaincy next. The announcement was made by Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI).

One of the all time most successful captains Mahendra Singh Dhoni finally retires from test cricket. Recently he made his announcement and the 3rd test match between Australia v India at Melbourne (Dec 26-30, 2014) became the last one for Dhoni. Earlier today BCCI posted in its twitter feed “MS Dhoni has chosen to retire from Test Cricket with immediate effect.”

Right after the third test match against Australia at Melbourne (Border-Gavaskar Trophy 2014), 33-year-old wicket-keeper batsman Mahi announced his retirement. It was reported that Virat Kohli will replace the captaincy for the fourth and final test at Sydney.

BCCI Statement

BCCI secretary Sanjay Patel said in a statement released by the BCCI that – “One of India’s greatest Test captains under whose leadership India became the number one team in the Test rankings, MS Dhoni has decided to retire from Test cricket citing the strain of playing all formats of cricket.”

“BCCI, while respecting the decision of MS Dhoni to retire from Test cricket, wishes to thank him for his enormous contribution to Test cricket and the laurels that he has brought to India.”
