Kolkata, May 6: Rabindra Bharathi University (RBU) is going to confer the honorary Doctorate of Letters to well-known lyricist Gulzar (Sampooran Singh Kalra) popular by his pen name and prominent comics-artist in India Narayan Debnath on the occasion of RBU 40th annual convocation i.e. on 8th May, 2015.
The occasion is planned in the presence of Social Scientist Dipankar Gupta as cheap guest and west Bengal governor K.N Tripathi who is also the chancellor of RBU University. Ceremony will be held at RBU’s Jorasanko campus in north Kolkata.
On the same day, State Akademi awards will also be given to Chetna Jalan for dance, Shaoli Mitra for Drama and Dhaneshwar Roy for music. In addition, the university will also conduct Kavi Sammelan on 6th May where poets across the state can participate.
From 7th to 10th May, craftsmen from various cities can showcase their creations at Nobel laureate Rabindranath Tagore’s ancestral home Jorasanko Thakurbari. Rabindra Bharathi University was established on 8th May, 1962 at Kolkata, West Bengal to mark the birth centenary of Tagore at his residential house which is used to learn music, dance and drama. It also offers some other services like photocopying services, information and reference service and etc.
