New Delhi: A 50 year old American woman named Ani Catrin Oro who is living in India had an ovarian surgery in a hospital. The team of doctors participated in operation removed 15 kg ovarian tumour from her body.

Dr. Sudhir Kumar Rawal, Head of Surgical Oncology at Rajiv Gandhi Cancer Institute and Research Center, New Delhi told that size of the tumour was large and inside body, the major organs are suppressed. He also told that surgery was a challenging task as this type of operation is not done any time in the past.

Now, Ani Catrin Oro is feeling lighter both mentally and physically. Her weight is cut down to 70 kg from 85 kg. She had a rare ovarian tumour and doctors went for a Compact Tomography (CT) scan in which a huge abdominal pelvic mass that is originating from the right adnexal region near the ovarian origin was found.

As she was suffering from a rare ovarian tumour, doctors decided to operate after initial diagnosis is finished. Dr. Rawal and others said that it was challenging, critical but successful now. Doctors who operated didn’t have any experience in conducting such surgeries; still they could do it better and saved her life.

The doctor, Rawal told that uterus and urinary bladder are not seen separately and the diagnosis, that was seen as huge ovarian tumour. Finally it lead to surgery in order to save her life instantly and doctors did the same.

“The involvement of multiple organs due to large size of tumour was also a huge challenge as large intestine was hugely pressed because of weight. It was a malignant tumour and to remove the mass, one ovary, uterus and part of large intestine in order to protect further spreading of tumour through infected parts”, explained the doctor.

It was clear in the diagnosis that organs in body are completely suppressed with pressure from tumour. The patient was on heavy anticoagulant and due to heavy tumour and lot of blood clotting in the veins; Deep Vein Thrombosis (DVT) was developed.
