Double Barrel Movie Review

Lijo Jose Pellisserry’s ‘Double Barrel aka Iratta Kuzhal’ is a Gangster comedy film. The film has a novel theme and is narrated in an experimental and unique manner. Director already said that, watching this movie is like reading a comic book. The movie is not centered on a hero and a heroine; instead each character has his own space and significance in the storyline.

‘Double Barrel’ is a Flesh fiction-esque movie starring Prithviraj and Indrajith in the lead roles. Prithviraj plays Pancho and Indrajith does Vinci. Arya as Majnu aka Jammy, Chemban Vinod Jose as Diesel, and Swathi Reddy as Laila aka Babushka do the other important roles.

Asif Ali, Sunny Wayn, Isha Shervani, Rachana Narayanankkutty, Vijay Babu, Anil Murali, Pearle Maaney, RJ Parvathy, Sherin Varghese, and Renjini Haridas lend support. The movie has a retro Seventies glam to it, complete with Cuban cigars, bellbottoms and side-beards. Kochi and Goa are the locations.

The camera is handled by Abhinanth Ramanajun and the music is scored by Prashant Pillai. The cinematography and production values are excellent and the direction is very nice. All the cjaracters are played well up to their roles.

Storyline in Brief

Double Barrel’ is a gangster movie set against the backdrop of Goa. The movie has a pulp fiction-esque feel complete with Cuban cigars, side beards, bellbottoms, crisp beer, and the works. The style quotient is sky high in the movie what with the Ray Bans, leather jackets, Jimmy Choos, Louis Vuitton, dapper suits and sharp suits, adding to the 70s glam retro feel.

The movie will be a fun movie with a lot of bullets flying around like the title suggests. The subtitle which goes ‘Adiyalla – Vedi Maathram’ points to high end killing machines complete with “sexy cars” in the frame. ‘Double Barrel’ will highlight the Goon culture too and a lot of unfamiliar elements will be its hallmark.

Music

The music composed by Prashant Pillai is excellent and especially with nice background scores and songs. The album contains 9 songs and all the songs were came really well and excellent.

Star Cast Performance

Prithviraj, Arya and Indrajit played key roles in this movie. Especially the comic scenes and action sequences done by these three are excellent for the film. This is the main highlight in the film. The narration and screen play is also very nice. Every one acted excellent in their roles.

Audience Response

Over all movie is very nice with lot of fun and fully loaded action sequences, definitely it is a different film from Lijo once again.
