Hyderabad: Yashoda Hospitals surgeons successfully finished complicated Elbow replacement surgery to a 70 years old Kenya woman patient, Asho on March 18, 2015.

City doctors successfully dealt with a complicated Elbow replacement surgery. On March 18, 2015, Surgeons at Yashoda Hospitals, Somajiguda has conducted a comprehensive elbow surgery, which is bit more complicated than other surgeries. It is for a 70 years old Kenya woman patient named Asho.

Elbow replacement surgery is a complex procedure, compared to other joint replacements surgeries; because Elbow has several moving parts that should balance each other with great precision to control movements of forearm. Later, great care must be taken to avoid harming large nerve, which is to travel along outside edge of the joint.

Joint replacement and sports medicine specialist, Dr. Sunil Dachepalli, Yashoda Hospitals, who is a lead of surgical team, said that patient Asho had badly fractured her left elbow due to a fall before 1 ½ year. She went through with two surgeries in Kenya, but those were failed to improve her misery. She found difficulty to move her elbow. Now she is able to move elbow comfortably with surgery producer at Yashoda and was discharged in three days.

Dr. Sunil explained regarding Elbow surgery that “Unlike knee and hip replacement surgeries, elbow replacement is a rare and specialised surgery that involves skillful dealing with muscles, ligaments and delicate joints. For approximately every 10,000 knee and hip replacement surgeries, one elbow joint surgery is usually conducted in the country.”
