Delhi: Famous social networking site Facebook came forward to boost Digital India Campaign by setting up of 100 Wi-Fi hot spots in India in accordance with BSNL

As a part of boosting Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s Digital India Campaign Programme, social media giant, Facebook is tie up with largest communication sector in India BSNL to establish 100 Wi-Fi sites in rural areas of western and southern India.

After meeting of Narendra Modi with Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg in US, this is the first step taken by the Facebook to boost Digital India Campaign and it seems positive sign for the country. According to reports, Facebook will spend Rs. 5 crore per year for sponsoring these 100 Wi-Fi hotspots in India,

In a press meet, director and chairman of BSNL Anupam Srivastava said that, “Facebook has partnered with us to sponsor 100 Wi-Fi hotspots in villages across western and southern India. They will pay Rs. 5 lakh for BSNL bandwidth for each hotspot per annum”.

“The hotspots are being set up by BSNL selected vendor Quad Zen. We have already set up 25 hotspots under the agreement. Facebook is only subsidizing them and not taking any revenue share. Quad Zen will set up these hotspots and knob the sales. There is revenue share model between BSNL and Quad Zen” added by BSNL Chairman.

The bond was signed in between Facebook and BSNL for three years and may be it will be extended for two more years. Under commercial model, Quad Zen will set up 2,000 Wi-Fi hotspots in West and Southern part of the country and Trimax will set up 500 hotspots in North India.
