First Show of Beef Documentary to be Screened at JNU

After I&B ministry disapproval on screening Beef Documentary during 12th Jeevika Asia Livelihood Documentary Festival 2015, makers decided to screen it at JNU.

Beef Documentary makers have taken a decision that they would like to screen first show at JNU independently. Actually, this documentary has to be shown at “12th Jeevika Asia Livelihood Documentary Festival 2015 in New Delhi” due to problem that the government disagreed to screen the documentary at that place on day after.

The makers said that they have independent screenings of caste on Menu Card at civil society institutions and on college campus. The film makers deeply saddened, after releasing the statement and move of Broadcasting Ministry’s for denying of screening the film at festival.

Centre for Civil Society said that caste and menu card was planned on 31st Oct 2015, but Ministry of I&B refused to excuse it from certification. Caste on the Menu Card was only not exempted from certification among 35 entries which have sent to the Ministry.

Five students of Media and Cultural Studies at the Tata Institutions of Social Sciences have made this documentary as part of their course. The main goal of this film is to prevalence of caste, human rights and social inclusion.

Atul Anand who is one of the film makers said that three months before filming the documentary a group of people, mostly Dalits and tribals demanded that pork and beef should be made available in the college mess. Atul Anand has finished TISS course in April and now he is teaching at Media College in Panjim.

The movie has been used TISS row for talking about connection between purity, caste and food. Most of the film has been shot in Mumbai and makers taken some incident’s suggestion which happened outside across the country.
