GHMC Strike Turns “Swachh Hyderabad” into Garbage Bin

Hyderabad, July 9: GHMC Strike – Swachh Hyderabad turns as garbage bin due to the unspecified strike called by the GHMC municipal employees which stops all cleaning work of the city.

Hundreds of contract municipal employees, along with employees of Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation called for strike on Monday for 16 major demands including salary. They were in strike for three days due this effect twin cities of Hyderabad and Secunderabad have turned as garbage bin.

The municipal employees demanded for regularization of services, payment of minimum wages and other welfare measures at the GHMC Headquarters and Other Zonal offices in the city. The employees are also blocked the GHMC’s alternative services to clean the garbage and attacked the temporary vehicles and staff at several places in the city on Wednesday.

The sanitation workers of GHMC demanded for increment of salary from Rs.8, 500 to Rs.16, 000 per month, regularization of all contract employees and health cards for all municipal employees. If the government accepts all these demands, additionally state government have to bear nearly Rs.200 crore per annum.

In city around 6,000 metric tonnes of garbage is collected every day, due to the absence of employees according to the sources, nearly 15 tonnes of garbage stored on the street of Hyderabad and the situation is worse in the Old city where more garbage is produced due to Ramzan festival. If situation still continues, it will be the huge impact for the Swachh Hyderabad campaign.
