The 12-day long ‘Godavari Maha Pushkaram’ which occurs once in 144 years is started today morning in the two Telugu states of Telangana and Andhra Pradesh.
The Pushkaralu which comes for every 12 years is celebrated as a Hindu festival in both Telugu states for 12 days. For this year it is celebrated as Godavari Maha Pushkaram, which is considered as a very auspicious from the astronomical point of view. This Maha Pushkaralu comes once in every 144 years, equivalent to the 12th recurrence of the 12 year Godavari Pushkaram cycle.
For this year Maha Pushkaralu, the both state governments have made various arrangements both in terms of pilgrim convenience and security to conduct the event peacefully for 12 days from 14th July to 25th July, 2015. Crores of people not only from both Telugu states but also from other states across the country are expecting for this holy event.
Andgra Pradesh government has arranged the 263 bathing ghats in the East and West Godavari districts where the pilgrims can take the holy dip, in a counterpart Telangana government has arranged the 106 bathing ghats over five districts in state. Chief Ministers of both Telugu states has already reached their respective Pushkar ghats to their holy dip.
Telangana Chief Minister K.Chandrasekhar Rao has stated the auspicious 12 days event by taking his holy dip along with his family at Dharmapuri in Karimnagar district. While the Andhra Pradesh government chief minister N Chandrababu Naidu, will take a holy dip tomorrow at Rajahmundry. The state governments have arranged the expert swimmers and rescue boats to overcome contingencies.
