New Delhi: The central government today decided to increase the budget for setting up Grid Solar Panels on roof-tops to about 5000 crores from 600 crores. The budget was increased ten-fold from 600 crores to 5000 crores.
The Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs headed by the Prime Minister cleared this decision ahead of the Budget session in 2016. The National Solar Mission, run by the government which has a target to set up 22,000 MW of solar power by 2020 has been increased to 1,00,000 MW in 2022. The government is looking to increase solar panel business as it is clean and much cheaper than diesel generators.
“The Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs, chaired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi has approved the scaling up of budget from Rs 600 crores to Rs 5000 crores for implementation of Grid Connected Rooftops systems over a period of five years up to 2019-20 under National Solar Mission (NSM),” an official statement said.
The budget increase to 6000 crores will help set up over 4200 MW of Solar Panels in the country over the next four years. As the recent Climate Summit, India agreed to reduce CO2 emissions and go towards cleaner energy. This development comes within that promise. The centre is looking ahead to build on cleaner energy patterns. Diesel Generators which are widely used in India pollute the country with a lot of gases. Cleaner energy will be the solution to the ever growing consumers.
