Hyderabad: Two City courts ordered 35 drivers, who was arrested under drunk and drive case to do social work daily three hours for three days and taken 21 others into custody.

The third and fourth Metropolitan Magistrate Courts at Erramanzil has punished 60 violators, who was arrested under drunk and drive case. The court asked the 35 drivers to do 3 hours social work for three regular days as a punishment, taken 21 others into custody and also awarded jail terms to four persons as a punishment ranging from two to five days.

The court also imposed fine up Rs.2,000 on all the sixty violators. Hyderabad police officials registered cases against drivers who were found while riding two-wheelers, driving three-wheelers and four wheelers and others in drunken state.

Additional commissioner (Traffic) Jitender welcomed the judgment and said that “through this social service punishment, drivers will realise their mistake and it will also help to spread the message that drunken driving is not safe for the rider as well as for those on the streets”

According to the information the police have registered around 9,096 drunken driving cases, out of which 1,188 drivers have been punished till date. Cases were booked against drunken motorists under the section 185 of the Motor Vehicles Act. As per this act a person is considered as being drunk if the alcohol content is more than 30 mg per 100 ml blood.
