A nine-year old Indian origin boy Anirudh Kathirvel has topped The Great Australian Spelling Bee contest winning a 50,000 dollars education scholarship along with an impressive 10,000 dollars’ worth goods for his school.
An Indian–origin boy Anirudh Kathirvel is the new champion of ‘The Great Australian Spelling Bee’ contest. A nine-year old Indian boy Anirudh has won the first season of this contest after beating Grace and won 50,000 dollars education scholarship along with an impressive 10,000 dollars’ worth goods for his school.
The final competition was held between Indian boy Anirudh and Grace, he correctly spelled words are aardvark aardvark, ricochet, psychoanalyst and camaraderie, among others and anther finalist Grace failed to spell ratatouille, giving the title to Kathirvel.
Anirudh born in Melbourne to aTamilian Couple Prithiviraj and Sujatha who migrated to Australia 16 years ago from Tamil Nadu. He started reading from the age of two, slowly he changed it has a passion. He participated in many spelling challenging contests, his first competition was when he was in grade 1. Gradually he increased his confidence levels.
Anirudh could not believe his luck after winning the competition he asked his fellow spellers to “Pich him” and said that “I need to rub my eyes and see if this is a dream,” he said adding “Nope.Nope.Nope.Real. I can’t describe it. It’s like the best day of my life.”
His favourite word to spell was ‘euouae’ a longest word which with consecutive vowels and some of other words he like to spell are feuilleton, cephalalgia, ombrophobous.
