India: Aishwarya Rai Bachchan’s (41 years old) Kalyan Jewellers Ad will be discontinued for promoting child labour concept in her Ad that is posted.
The 41-years old actress Aishwarya Rai Bachchan is the National brand ambassador for Kalyan Jewellers. A recent advertisement of jewellery featuring the beauty queen with a child has created online controversy over the racist concern.
The creative intention of an ad which expresses royalty, timeless beauty and elegance has faced the fury of activists after advertisement was published in a paper. If we observe the image, it is depicting 17th century Nobel woman featuring former miss world Aishwarya Rai Bachchan, and if we observe it closely there is another side of image, i.e. the woman seated comfortably and the child who is dark and thin holding an umbrella by covering woman’s head, which is represented like the promotion of child labour.
Former beauty got an open letter regarding this and then she released a statement that the image of jewellery ad featuring her was changed without her prior knowledge, creative ad team of jewellery was responsible for the change.
Finally the company has expressed regret for hurting sentiments of people and they started process to remove campaign. The team of Kalyan Jewellers said through their Facebook that “The creative was intended to present the royalty, timeless beauty and elegance. However, if we have inadvertently hurt the sentiments of any individual or organisation, we deeply regret the same. And we started the process of withdrawing this creative from our campaign”.
