Kollywood is full of surprises. A movie’s success can never be determined easily. Vishal’s ‘Kathakali’ got good response among critics and movie buffs. Last year Jayam Ravi’s ‘Thani Oruvan’, Kamal’s ‘Papanasam’ and ‘Kaka Muttai’ were the only movies to get complete success.

In the recently released Pongal releases, despite poor critics, Udhayanidhi’s ‘Gethu’ and Bala’s ‘Thaarai Thappattai’ rank better than Vishal’s ‘Kathakali’. This has indeed surprised everyone. The reason is pretty simple. The number of screen count is less for ‘Kathakali’.

This has subsequently reflected in the Box-office collections. ‘Rajini Murugan’ leads the way in Pongal releases and the next movie to follow ‘Rajini Murugan’ is ‘Gethu’ and ‘Thaarai Thappatai’.

A trade analyst said, “Due to the Good word of mouth, we are planning to increase the screen count for ‘Kathakali’ in the second week. The collections will change after the second week’s run. ‘Gethu’ and ‘Thaarai Thappatai’ gets a mixed response which is not a good thing.”
