Maharashtra, May 2: Food and Drugs Administration (FDA) directed police to file an FIR against CEO of major e-commerce website Snapdeal.com’s Kunal Bahl and directors of the company for allegedly selling prescription drugs through online.

FDA commissioner Harshadeep Kamble ordered filing an FIR against the company CEO, Kunal Bahl and directors. Sandeal is offering prescription needed drugs through online to customers, but those should be sold only by a licensed pharmacist. FDA observed this and raided on go downs of company, then it agreed to take down the drugs which are offered on the website.

Earlier FDA had issued a notice to company and was asked to show details regarding drugs open for sale, distribution and displayed for sale on its website. Last month they raided at company godowns and found that the company is exhibiting medicines including prescription drugs, as per law which will be sold through a licensed retailer.

An FIR is the first step in an investigation and the FDA believed that the company may be punished with jail term of up to five years along with a fine of not less than Rs. 1 lakh. FDA will also investigate on other online shopping companies such as Flipkart and Amazon soon.
