MNLU, Maharashtra National Law University is unlikely to be set up in the coming academic year, which was previously proposed by the Congress NCP government.

The first National Law University of Maharashtra which was proposed by the previous government of Congress is to be constructed in the next academic that is going to come.

After many hurdles and disturbances, even though the led government of Devendra Fadnavis has been angry regarding the actions of the administration are fast since it came into power, it is success now to start building.

In the political fight between Nagpur, Aurangabad and Mumbai, the state government of Maharashtra, now a green signal to NLUs has been decided to start at one location.

For the post of the institution vice-chancellor, Prof. Bhavani Prasad Panda of Bengal Behrampur University was selected by the Chief Justice of India.

He has been working from October 10th last year and started to meet with Fadnavis and some other delegates for lack of funds and space December onwards.  But failed to permeate the bureaucracy surrounding the CM.

An Official privy said, “Prof Panda has been running from pillar to post to meet the CM to set the ball rolling for MNLU, but to no avail. Babus in the chief minister’s office and the higher education department have kept the ace academician waiting for the past one and half months completely, ignoring the urgency of the matter”.

It is said that without any campus and funds, the university works can’t be started in the academic year 2015-16. All the young law aspirants will have to look for admission in the NLUs of other states once again for the next year if this NLU is not started.

The Mumbai NLU is expected to offer world class law education from the academic year 2015-16 with an intake capacity of 120 for the five-year law course instantly.

Professor Panda said, “I am still hopeful to start the MNLU this year provided the government gives me a temporary campus. I have been put up at Ismail Yusuf College in Jogeshwari. A few rooms in the same campus would be fine to start with 60 students. This campus is spacious and has surplus land. The MNLU can be established here later on. This place is close to airport also, which goes in its favour”.

For the registration failure of MNLU for the CLAT, Prof Panda claimed, “I have already convinced NLU Delhi to conduct the joint test for us.”

The Delhi NLU take-in students on the basis of own admission test rather than CLAT. Fadnavis didn’t respond on these words.
