Maharashtra tops BNHS’s nationwide bird count

Mumbai: Maharashtra birders got top position in countrywide in Salim Ali Bird Count event which was organized by Bombay Natural History Society which is called as BNHS

Bombay Natural History Society has conducted the birds count, Maharashtra birders got top in the countrywide, Salim Ali Bird counted on 15th Nov 2015. This event has been organized to remember the birth anniversary of ‘Birdman of India’ and also encouraging the birdwatchers to documentation various birds, as well as migratory and resident from various habits overall the cities.

As per BNHS official, a number of birds went out alone and some in groups and the data which is observed birds, all list of different kind of birds has been uploaded in the ebird website. The all data has collected from this ebird website.

Dr. Raju Kasambe, Important Bird Areas, Programme Manager, BNHS-India said that they received a wonderful response from birders and bird fans. Approximately, 99 districts have participated from 22 covered states, and 15, 638 observations were recorded by more than 280 people and these covering totally of on 514 kinds of birds in one day.

He also added that 30 kinds of birds have been taken from IUCN Red List of Threatened Birds 2015. Maharashtra got first rank with 123 lists submitted, Kerala 59, Karantaka & Tamil Nadu 40 lists has submitted.

“We are very happy with this high response and would like to make it as a big event next year by increasing the number of participants. We will do our best in the states where got less response and help all birdwatchers based on their requirement as well as location of the country”, added Kasambe.
