Mumbai: Marathi film court has beaten Baahubali and nominated as India’s official entry to Oscar 2016 in the category of best foreign language film
Tollywood ace director Rajamouli’s magnum opus Baahubali is the higher grosser in Telugu and not only for Telugu cinema it had also grabbed the attention of many industries and stood as biggest movie in Indian cinema by beating many Bollywood records.
Everyone expected that Baahubali would be nominated for Oscar 2016 due to wonderful direction values, good graphic works and rich fighting sequences. But unfortunately it was not nominated for Oscar. Now, as per latest updates, Baahubali was beaten by Marathi film Court and it was entered into Oscar 2016 as India’s official for 2016.
The movie Court was nominated officially to Oscar race as India’s official entry for the Best Foreign Language Film category of the upcoming 88th Academy Awards. Chaitanya Tamhane’s debut Marathi movie Court, will be facing unbendable competition from 80 other films from different countries.
India’s Oscar Jury that has been famous for presenting the last-minute surprises once gain staggered with this latest news. By recommending Court, a courtroom drama that brings alive injustices of India’s legal system ahead of biggies like Bahubali, Bajrangi Bhaijaan, Manjhi: The Mountain Man and Haider, they continued the tradition of not going ahead with mainstream movies.
However, Baahubali was the number one in the Oscar race to represent India in the biggest foreign film category of 88th Academy awards which will be held on 28th February 2016 in Los Angeles. But a 17-member secret jury headed by Amol Palekar has decided in favour of Court as the India’s official entry.
The Marathi film Court features actors like Vivek Gomber, Vira Sathidar, Geetanjali Kulkarni, Pradeep Joshi, Usha Bane and Shirish Pawar.
