Mentally Challenged Minor Girl Raped | 20-Year-Old Arrested

Mumbai, June 30: A 20 year old is arrested for allegedly gang-raping a mentally retarded girl of 14 years by Pant Nagar police at their locality, Ghatkopar (East).

A mentally challenged minor has been gang-raped by a 20-year-old boy who resides at Ghatkopar (East). The Pant Nagar police have arrested the accused and victim is hospitalized. Police investigation says that the girl’s parents, father is paralyzed and her mother sells vegetables. By taking this as an advantage, the boy and his friend took her to a public toilet/ private places and raped her.

The girl’s behavior is different and that is noticed by her teacher at school. After speaking to the mentally challenged girl, teacher in that area came to know about this incident and immediately informed to her mother. As an action, she gave a complaint in a nearby police station. As soon as the case has been filed, the police investigated about the rape case and arrested the accused.

Pant Nagar police officer said about their family, “Father of the victim is paralysed and her mother sells vegetables for a living. The victim is generally alone at home and the accused took advantage of this situation”. He also added that, “The teacher coaxed the victim to speak to her. Following this, the victim narrated her ordeal to the teacher, she immediately informed the mother of the victim who later approached the police. A case was then registered”.

The accused, 20-year-old has been arrested at Ghatkopar (East) where the girl also lives. His case is filed under Indian Penal Code (IPC) section 376(d) (gang rape), 377 (unnatural sex), 342 (wrongful confinement) along with relevant sections of the Protection of Children against Sexual Offences Act, 2012 (POCSO).
