MPs Transit Accommodation Cost Rises from Rs 3 Cr to 21 in 2015

New Delhi, June 22: Response to Intervention, RTI response revealed that Indian Govt spent 24 crore rupees on transit accommodation of 16th Lok Sabha members in Delhi.

Latest report from RTI clears that the transit stay of Lok Sabha members has bagged an amount of nearly Rs 24 crore. As per rules and regulations, State Bhawans or ITDC hotels that are involved for accommodation of MPs will be paid by the Directorate of Estates under the Union Ministry of Urban Development. And now this completely counted to amount more than 20 crores.

Complete details, stay confirmation will be gathered and later the payments will be done it seems. Whole things will be regularized from Lok Sabha or Rajya Sabha Secretariat and in a period of 14 days, a new Member of Parliament should be shifted to the habitation. For this period, the Union Ministry will pay the amount for them. And no amount will be paid if one will stay in the accommodation after 14 days.

“Such payment is made after getting the period of stay confirmed/ regularized from Lok Sabha or Rajya Sabha Secretariat. Once a regular accommodation is allotted to the MP and the same is declared habitable by CPWD, 14 days time is given to MP to shift to the habitable declared accommodation,” said the response from the Urban Development Ministry.

Central Public Information Officer, G.P. Sarkar in response to a query by activist Subhash Agrawal said, “Rent paid for transit stay of newly elected MPs in the year 2014 (January 1 to December 31, 2014) is Rs 2.96 crore and in the year 2015 (Jan 1 till May 22, 2015) is Rs 21.02 crore”.
